Rail Fence Quilt

I received an email this month asking if I could give any information on the history of the Rail Fence Block and where it came from. While searching around for this information I decided that this would be a wonderful quilt to make.
You Need To …
Cut 8 2.5” strips from your three different coloured fabrics.
Sew your three strips together using a quarter inch seam allowance and press seams to one side. Your strips should now measure 6.5” x length of strips.
Cut your three sewn together strips into 6.5” squares.
Now take 4 of your 6.5” squares and place them as your heart desires.

Sew these together to make a 12.5” square four patch block.
Repeat this until you have 9 12.5” squares.
Now take the 9 your 12.5” squares and place them as you wish.

Sew these together to make the quilt top.
You can now add a 2.5” border and then a 4.5” border if you wish. If you do this your quilt top will be 48.25” square.
Then all you need to do is Layer, Baste, Quilt, Bind, and finally add a label to finish your quilt.
The images I have included are just one way of placing the blocks together, try turning them around for a completely different effect.
