Ever wondered what to do with those beautiful panels you buy, well I have, ever since I started quilting I have been buying up different panel’s, teddy bears, Halloween, Christmas, Bob the Builder, Chooks, Angels, Winnie the Pooh …

I think you probably get the picture, yeah they were all in a pile along with all the other fabrics I have purchased.

I have spent many a Sunday pulling them out from the piles, staring at them and then putting them back and moving onto another quilt which of course meant that I had to buy more fabric!!!

Well, thanks to Hobby Horse in Georgetown I have finally managed to start working through the panel’s.

I love to site and hand quilt in the evening when watching a little television after getting home from work, and panel’s are ideal for this.

You will Need …

1 Fabric Panel
Flannel 5” larger than your fabric panel on each of the four sides

Putting it all together …

Take your Fabric Panel and fold under the edges so that you have a nice finished edge all round the panel.

Press that fold in place.

Now take your piece of Flannel and lay it face down.

Smooth our the Flannel.

Place your Fabric Panel slap bang in the middle of your Flannel face up.

Baste the two layers together, I used basting spray for my one, but you can use any of the basting methods.

Now take your basted quilt and sew the two layers together round the four edges, make sure that you sew as close to the folded edge on your fabric panel as you can.
Once you have sewn the two layers together you can either machine or hand quilt your Panel Flannel quilt.

When you have finished the quilting the only thing left to do is to make the tassels.
Cut 1” wide by 4” long strips all around the edge of the flannel (see my quilt for finished look).

You now have your first warm and snuggly Panel Flannel quilt.
