Friendly Quilt

©
With all the beautiful weather we have
been having lately I have noticed more and more people visiting friends, so I
thought to myself how nice it would be to start a swap quilt. So I looked
through my book of blocks and found an appropriately named one,
FRIENDSHIP STAR.
I have provided the instructions for
making two 9 finished blocks, so keep one and share the other with your
quilting group or friends and send me in copies of your finished quilts so that
I can display them on the website.
You Will Need
2 Fat Quarters, your choice of colour and
pattern as long as they look good together.
I used a light fabric for the background and a medium to dark fabric for the
star and corner triangles.
Putting It All Together
Lay your star and corner fabric face up on your cutting board.
Lay your background fabric face down on top of your star and corner fabric.
Take your Rotary Cutter and cut your piled fat quarters into 3 7/8 strips.
Then cut your 3 7/8 strips in 3 7/8 squares.
Remove 2 sets of the 3 7/8 squares.
With the remaining sets of 3 7/8 squares, draw one diagonal line across the fabric
Making sure that you keep the sets of two 3 7/8 squares together sew a 1/4 seam either side of the drawn line.
Cut on the line and press towards the dark fabric.
You should now have eight 3 half squares triangles.
Lay your 9 pieces out as shown below and
sew together.

You should now have two 9 1/2 Friendship Stars.
This is a wonderful way of using up those unwanted Fat Quarters that you just dont know what to do with, the more varied the fabrics the better the scrappy quilt you will get.
Have fun, and please remember to pass the
pattern around so that your friends can make the blocks up and you can swap
finished blocks and use these to make a lovely Friendly Quilt.
