EASTER CHICK - PLACEMAT PATTERN

 

                                                  Easter Chick Placemat

 

You Will Need …

 

1 10.5” squares of White Fabric for Top

4 1.5” x 10.5” strips of Purple for Top

4 1.5” squares of Green Fabric for Top

2 3.5”  12.5” of Easter Egg Print for Top

1 12.5” x 18.5” of Batting

1 12.5” x 18.5” of Easter Egg Print for Backing

2 1.25” x 45” of Easter Egg Print for Binding

2.5” x 5” Yellow Solid Fabric for Chick

3” x 6” Floral Easter Egg Print for Egg Shell

1.5” x 1.5” Orange Solid for Beak

Steam a Seam

White Thread

Monofilament Thread

Black Embroidery Thread

 

Putting the block together …

Easter Chick Placemat Layout

Layout your pieces as shown.

Sew the place mat top together.

Lay down you’re your Backing Fabric, with right side facing down.

Centre your Batting on top of the Backing Fabric.

Place your finished place mat top on top of the Batting, with right side facing up.

Pin the three layers together.

Fill a bobbin with the White Thread and put this in your machine.

Place the Monofilament Thread in the top of your machine.

Machine quilt the three layers together, by “stitching in the ditch”, in each of the seams in the place mat top.

Topstitch around the edge of the place mat 1/8” from the edge.

Sew the short ends of your binding fabric together to make one long strip.

Press 1/4” under along one of the long edges of your binding fabric.

Sew the binding around the edge of your place mat.

Turn the place mat over and appliqué stitch the binding in place.

Trace the Easter Chick in the Egg Shell Pattern on this page onto the Steam a Seam.

Fuse the Yellow Solid, Floral Easter Egg Print and Orange Solid Fabrics to Steam a Seam.

Cut out the Chick from the yellow, the egg from the Floral and the Beak from the Orange Fabric.

Centre and place the chick in the egg design onto the white square of the place mat and then iron in place.

Blanket Stitch around the edge of the three appliquéd pieces.

Sew a black bead on for the eye.
